Appropriators get all up in arms when people say “hey maybe you could not appropriate my culture”. They yell “censorship”, they make accusations of limiting creativity. You can give them a million and a half different articles on why what their doing is racist, but still people who are victims of the colonialism that’s massaged so deep in the mind of society are made to be the bad guys.
When people call you out for appropriation no one is ripping off your racist costume or your chicken feather hairband, made my some company who doesn’t even know where the Navajo even come from. They are giving you links, facts, essays, evidence, statistics and they are saying this is why you shouldn’t do it. And if you choose to continue to appropriate things after you’ve been given evidence that what your doing is racist, and you continue to do those things, then you are being racist. No one is stopping you from being racist. No one is blocking you. No one is physically stopping you. People are just saying, what you are doing contributes to a colonial system that oppresses me and you should stop. Your stopping is your choice, but your choices have consequences and that consequence is you being called out.
But how much sense does it make when you yell “PC-Police” or “Ess-Jay blogger” and then proceed to have the person who is trying to educate you ON THEIR CULTURE, which you are continuing to desecrate, blocked/reported and removed from the site.
If you really stood for free speech the you would care about the side that is continually beat down, and trying to speak up.
